Why the hype? This is not yet a prime time major announcement.

The NASA Press Conference of December 3, 2012 is HERE. All slides shown below are taken from it. This press conference, often billed as set to make a major announcement, was far from that. There was mention of some chloromethane compounds seen by SAM, but it was unclear as to whether they were contaminants brought from Earth, something already seen by SAM, whether they were from meteorites or other sources off Mars, or whether they originally formed on Mars. Figure 5 below best sums up today's "major announcement."
